This stray dog tried to seek help by standing in front of a door..
Earlier in January, a man was shocked to see a hairless dog standing outside his front door on a cold winter night, begging for help. The poor dog was shivering badly from the cold and was obviously emaciated. Concerned for the dog’s well-being, the man quickly brought the dog indoors and called animal control for help. When animal control arrived, the dog was brought to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA for medical help. According to the representative for the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA, the dog was probably abandoned by her former owner on the side of the road that night and sought help by standing outside a front door.
The dog was soon named Peggy and underwent a medical examination by the vets at the shelter. Peggy was diagnosed with untreated demodectic mange, which was responsible for the scaly appearance of her skin and her fur loss.
According to Ron Perez, the president of the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA, Peggy was in a bad shape as she also had open lacerations on her face and neck in addition to her lack of fur. However, just a week later, Peggy’s condition continued to improve and some of her fur had already grown back.
Peggy is now mange-free and even has a sweet personality to boot. Peggy’s former owner was successfully caught and arrested a day after she was found. He could be fined an amount of $1000 and serve a jail sentence if convicted. On March 10, Peggy finally found her forever home and she is currently living happily with her new family.
