Instructables member mikeasaurus (aka Mike Warren) came up with a pretty clever idea about what to do with those cracks that appear in the planks of wood that comprise a table. Instead of just ignoring them, he decided to embrace them, and made them an important part of the table’s design; he made them glow in the dark. The magic ingredient to make this happen is photoluminescent (glow) powder.

When the glow powder is mixed with resin, it can be added to projects to make them glow in the dark. The cracks in this table are simply perfect for the resin mix as they appear naturally, anyway. To help enhance the effect, Mike really carved the cracks out to leave plenty of room for the resin. The concoction oozed over other parts of the wood while he was pouring it on, but he only needed to sand down the top of the table to remove any excess while leaving the cracks perfectly filled.
Mike has provided a full tutorial on the Instructables website for those who are adventurous enough to try it themselves. The video gives you a good look at what the table looks like when the sun goes down. It’s perfect for a night party on the patio!
