Prince George’s seldom-seen godfather, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, shared a warm public reunion with Kate Middleton during a royal engagement on Thursday.
The 43-year-old Princess of Wales visited the Sudbury Silk Mills in Suffolk, England, where she greeted her former private secretary with smiles and hugs.
Lowther-Pinkerton, who currently serves as the Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk, was the first private secretary to Prince William, Princess Catherine, and Prince Harry from 2005 to 2013.
His tenure lasted nearly twice as long as any of his successors, highlighting the close bond he has shared with the family over the years.
A former Special Air Service major, Lowther-Pinkerton played a key role in guiding the trio during the early days of their royal duties.
Their connection grew so strong that the Prince and Princess of Wales chose him as godfather to their eldest son, Prince George, born in 2013.
Lowther-Pinkerton’s own son, also named William, served as one of the two pageboys at William and Catherine’s 2011 wedding.
The pair, who have known each other for decades, shared a heartwarming public reunion during the visit.
Before stepping down in 2013, he helped prepare the couple—and the Royal Household staff—for Prince George’s arrival.
His ties to the Windsor family, however, extend even further.
Lowther-Pinkerton also served as a director of the Royal Foundation and Prince Harry’s charity Sentebale, from which the duke stepped down earlier this year.
Lowther-Pinkerton’s son, also named William, served as one of the two pageboys at William and Catherine’s 2011 wedding.
After stepping down as private secretary over a decade ago, Lowther-Pinkerton also resigned from his charity positions.
Between 1984 and 1986, he served as equerry to the late Queen Mother, who passed away in 2002. He was later appointed a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order in the 2013 New Year’s Honours.
He also has royal connections, being a distant relative of his former charges through the 1st Earl of Bessborough, a long-standing figure within the Royal Family.
A graduate of the prestigious Eton College, Lowther-Pinkerton trained at Sandhurst before joining the Irish Guards in 1979.
After forming a close bond with William and Catherine, Lowther-Pinkerton was chosen as godfather to their eldest son, Prince George, born in 2013.
During her official visit, Princess Catherine toured the 300-year-old Sudbury Silk Mills, a site dedicated to advancing Britain’s textile industry.
The mother of three met with designers to discuss various patterns and observed both the creative process and the final quality checks.
