An incredibly small and unique little deer was left motherless, only to be taken in by kind strangers in Grand Rapids, Michigan. But, this isn’t a Bambi story, this is Dragon’s story.
The little fawn was born with an unusually rare white face and soft pink nose. WOODTV 8 reports the fawn’s piebald disease diagnoses, which causes these pigment problems and other health issues, meant his mother rejected him at birth.
That’s when the folks at Deer Tracks Junction took this little guy in to hand-rear him. “In the wild, they are very, very rare” Hilary Powell, the owner of Deer Tracks Junction explained to Fox 17. “Normally they have a black nose… [A pink nose is] actually a detriment in the wild, because if they don’t have shade, their nose is very sensitive to the sun and can get sunburn.”
The fawn is now growing up big and strong thanks to all the care and support he gets from the staff at the Deer Track ranch. Right now he is getting fed 4 times a day as well as getting lots of hugs and attention from his handlers who want to see him grow up to be big and strong.
The Grand Rapid’s community fell in love with Dragon and his unique features so much that the organizers at Deer Tracks even opened up the place for visitors to meet Dragon and all the other animals they rehabilitate there.
