Most of us dog owners like to have our four-legged friends with us in the house — we see them as part of the family.

But some dog owners prefer to keep their dog outside all day and night.

In some cases, the dogs are at least allowed into the house when the temperature gets too hot or too cold. But some dogs even have to stay outside in extreme conditions.

This has prompted strong reactions amongst animal lovers.

But now a law in Pennsylvania has been introduced to stop this cruelty — and not a day too soon!

It’s a shame that lawmakers have to take this step to protect dogs from their owners, but too many dogs were being left outside during the harsh winter.

Libre’s Law increases the penalties handed out in animal neglect cases, according to wkbn.com.

The law is clear and simple: if the temperature is above 90°F or below 32°F, a dog cannot be tethered for longer than 30 minutes.

Animal owners who violate this face the possibility of both high fines and even imprisonment.

The law will send a clear message to pet owners that it’s not OK to treat animals badly.

What wonderful news! Now, we hope that more states and other countries follow this example and introduce laws to protect our furry friends!
